Happy New Year to everyone! We have a great year of golf planned for everyone. This year we start off our Mid-Amateur Championship at Country Club of Maryland and we finish off the year of golf with our Open Championship at Glen Riddle in West Ocean City. We have several other wonderful venues during the summer months. I invite you to peruse the website for the great schedule we have lined up in 2010.
I am very pleased with the addition of 4 new board members. We had our first board meeting the other day and these gals were great. They all bring additional talent and enthusiasm to our Board. Please join me in welcoming Patsy Dimuzio (CC at Woodmore), Joan Heiss (Talbot Country Club), Carolyn Hudson (Bowie Golf Club), and Bonnie Lennox (Holly Hills Country Club).
The MSGA-WD Board has been busy this winter. We will be sending out a survey in a month or so for the purpose of obtaining your feedback on our tournaments and other issues. We would greatly appreciate your input. We can use the survey to make improvements across the board – courses, locations, prizes. We would like to increase the play for women in the State of Maryland and hope that our survey will tell us how to do so. When you receive the email with the survey, please take 15 minutes to complete it. Your input is invaluable to us!
We are also working on an update to our standing rules with more comprehensive instructions regarding the nominating committee. We have established a subcommittee to review our rules and make suggestions to any areas that need it. We hope to complete this project so that we can send revised standing rules out to our delegates for a vote in September, 2010.
One other project that is in its early stages is to review and revise / redo our website to make it more user friendly. If you have any input for enhancements that would make it better for you, please let me know.
As I am writing this, it is cold and either raining or snowing in our State. I can’t wait for the Team Matches to begin. They are the official start of the golf season for us. And when they begin, it means warm weather, fast greens and the smell of cut grass is right around the corner. For now, it’s off to USGA Rules School for me and the other members of the Executive Board. See you in the spring!
