Karishma Thaigaraj backed up a career-best opening-round 72 with a 79, and her 151 was enough to win the 33rd Junior Girls championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at Hog Neck Golf Course in Easton, June 24. For a second straight day, the weather was mild and sunny for the 24-player field.

Sweet, a recent Eleanor Roosvelt graduate and headed for the College of William & Mary, finished 79-75--154, seven shots clear of her closest pursuer. She had tied for fifth at 168 a year ago.
