Founded in 1921, the Maryland State Golf Association fulfills its constitutional mandate by promoting the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions; sponsoring and conducting state tournaments as well as USGA qualifying rounds each year; educating and informing Maryland golfers about changes in the Rules of Golf; fostering respect for the game of golf as well as its Rules; and awarding scholarships.

The Maryland State Golf Association began its 91st year of service with the election of David F. Nocar of Chartwell Golf & Country Club as president of the organization. The newest vice president is Paul Dillon from Congressional Country Club. The annual dinner meeting, November 11, 2011, at Chartwell attracted a gathering of some 100 guests. Full Story >>

For the second consecutive year, Chris Baloga was named the MSGA Player of the Year. Baloga, 28, who has now finished 3-2-1-1 in four of the last five years, earned points in eight of nine events, finishing with a total of 635. Although this was about one-third fewer than his record-setting 910 total a year ago, it was still enough to easily hold off Brett Williams, BCC, who had points in five of six events for a total of 505. Mike Occi makes it a sweep for repeat winners by earning the 2011 MSGA Senior Player of the Year honors. Occi, who became eligible for the 55-over Senior division last year, earned 325 points, collecting points in six of 10 events. Marty West, Columbia CC, was second with points in five of six events for 155, trailed by Jim Castagna, Manor CC, the first Senior winner in 2007, who had points in four of seven events for 145. 2012 MSGA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2012 Maryland State Golf Association Team Championship will begin on Saturday, April 7, with a preliminary round. The full 64 team field rounds will begin on Saturday, April 14. The complete schedule is as follows:
PRELIMINARY ROUND -- SATURDAY, APRIL 7
FIRST ROUND -- SATURDAY, APRIL 14
SECOND ROUND -- SUNDAY, APRIL 15
THIRD ROUND -- SATURDAY, APRIL 21
FOURTH ROUND -- SUNDAY, APRIL 22
FIFTH ROUND -- SATURDAY, APRIL 28
SIXTH ROUND -- SUNDAY, APRIL 29
FUTURE MARYLAND STATE PRO-AMS MOVING TO LATE APRIL
The Maryland State Pro-Am is being moved from its longstanding date of mid-July, typically the week after the Maryland Open, to a late April date. The 2012 Pro-Am will be conducted on Tuesday, April 24 at Crofton Country Club while the 2013 edition is slated for Thursday, April 25 at The Suburban Club. The defending champions are Justin Heimer and 2011 Maryland Amateur champion Mark Cusic.
Entries open on March 1st and are due no later than April 6th at 5:00 pm. Full story >>

- 2012 Team Matches: Entries due by 5:00 pm on February 24th. The MSGA will accept ALL entries received by this date and time.
