P. J. Boatwright Internship
 
The Maryland State Golf Association has a paid internship opportunity available to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration. The internship is known as the P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship and is sponsored by the United States Golf Association. The following is a job description along with requirements. INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION & DATA

Working at the direction of the association's Executive Director, the intern will be exposed to all areas of the administration of amateur golf.

The intern will participate in the following programs and duties will include:

Conduct of statewide golf championships.
(15 Championships plus 3 USGA Qualifiers – approximately 25 days) plus Women's Division 7 Championships -12 Dayss
  Visit golf course with officer-in-charge to set up for tournament.
  Prepare notice to competitors.
  Receive and process tournament applications.
  Prepare computerized “Starting Times”.
  Prepare computer-generated scorecards.
  Record final scores and prize distribution.
  Assist Rules Officials and Administration at tournament sites.
     
Communications and media relations.
  Take photographs at tournament sites.
  Notify press of tournament results.
  Prepare report of tournament and disseminate to executive committee.
  Maintain current status of web site with tournament applications, starting times, championship results, photos of participants and association news.
     
Course rating
  Assist course raters (approximately 4 days) in the field.
     
General office administration
  Compile and maintain MSGA office records. (conversion to computer files)
  Record minutes of meetings.
  Respond to inquires.
  Assist in management of association’s Web Site.
  Develop e-mail list of competitors for future e-mailing of starting times, pairings, etc.
     
The duration of the internship will be:
  Full time (40 Hours/week) during summer months - June, July & August
  Partime during school available if student local to Baltimore area.
 
     
Every effort will be made to accommodate school schedules.
     
Strong consideration will be given to students who:
  Are pursing an education in or planning a career in sports administration or a related field.
  Will be juniors or seniors in college during the 2007-2008 academic year.
  Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  Have strong computer skills.
  Have a background in the game of golf; however, golf participation is not a requirement of this program.
